Relive the Ramayana Period 5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS

Relive the period of Ramayana and witness the sites that you have only read in the Epic. Sri Lanka or the erstwhile Lanka was the capital of Demon King Ravana. Seetha Devi was kidnapped and kept in Ravana’s Ashok Vatika with strict vigilance. This 5 days and 4 nights tour takes you to all the places that stand as a mute witness to the epic battle fought between the Good and Evil.

Day 1: Colombo

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and proceed to the selected hotel. On your way to the hotel, enroute, you can stop and visit Kataragama and Ussangoda.

The pilgrimage town has a shrine dedicated to Skanda Kumara, who is also known as Kataragama Deviyo. The same lord is also revered by the Buddhists as a guardian deity and hence is one of the 16 most visited Buddhist pilgrimages in the Sri Lanka.

An archaeological site, the place is full of unique reddish coloured soil, which is found in Mars. So you might get a feeling of being in Mars while here. As per legend, Ussangoda is the resting place of Demi god- ‘Mangara’. While here, you can observe various beautiful fishes in the Ussangoda Sea.

Day 2: Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya to see beautiful Tea Gardens of Ella, Ravana Waterfall, Seetha Amman Kovil Temple,Haggala Botanical Garden and Divurumpola.

Hiking in Tea Gardens of Ella
Situated in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, Ella is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, hilly countryside and waterfalls. Do some hiking in the lush tea estates and visit the tea factories that produce the famous Ceylon Tea.? Walk upto the Ravana Waterfall which has a Ravana Ella Cavewhere the Demon King had hidden Seetha Devi for sometime after kidnapping.

Seetha Amman Kovil Temple
Located in the village of Seetha Eliya, this is believed to be the site where Seetha was held captive by Ravana. She used to pray everyday for Rama to come and rescue her. There is a rock face across a stream here, which has circular depressions that are believed to be footprints of Lord Hanuman.

Haggala Botanical Garden
The exotic garden has found a mention in Ramayana as Ashok Vatika. As per the folklores, King Ravana had kept Seetha here after kidnapping her. Today it is visited by tourists in lakhs for 10,000 species of flora and it boasts of being the second largest garden in Sri Lanka.

As per legend, this is the place where Seetha Devi was asked to undergo an “Agni Pariksha”. She had to walk through the fire to prove her sanctity. The word Divurumpola means ‘A Place of Oath’ in Sinhala.

After breakfast in hotel, proceed for Kandy to see the Tea Plantations, Ramboda Waterfalls, Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple and the famous Tooth Relic Temple of Lord Buddha.

Tea plantations of Kandy
The tea plantations here are spread across the mountains. It is a great experience to see the intimate process before the coffee brews the perfect cup. Go hiking and also meet the locals who work in the gardens.

Ramboda waterfall
Created from Puna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya, the Ramboda Falls form a twin with Dunsinane Falls which is also a tributary of Kothmale River. They combine at the base to form a Y shape and hence provide a picturesque scene.

Bhakta Hanuman Temple
The temple was built in 1953 by the Vedanta teacher Swami Chinmayananda. This spiritual organization engaged in the dissemination of Vedanta. Every year, thousands of Hindus visit here for spiritual gratification.

Tooth Relic Temple of Kandy
A UNESCO World Heritage site, the temple houses the ‘relic of the tooth’ of Lord Buddha. Easily identified by the golden-roof, it is one of Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist temples. During special prayers, the heavily guarded room displaying the tooth is opened for devotees to visit.

Day 04: Chilaw / Negambo

After breakfast in the hotel, leave for the Munishwaram Temple and Manavari Kovil

Munishwaram Temple
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Munishwaram temple predates the Ramayana. The word Munishwaram means (Munnu + Easwaran) which mean the first temple for Shiva. As per legend, this Shiva Lingam was visited by Lord Rama, after he slayed the demon king Ravana. It is said that Lord Rama after winning the battle was leaving for Ayodhya with Sita in Ravana’s Pushpak Vimana. He felt that he was being followed by Bramhaasthi Dosham (a wicked black shadow). That was because he had killed Ravana who was a Brahmin.

Manavari Temple
This typical Tamil temple is the first Shiva Lingam installed by Lord Rama. This was a remedy suggested by Lord Shiva to eradicate Bramhaasthi Dosham (sin of killing a Brahman). The Shiva-Lingam in Manavari is also known as Ramalingam and is considered one of the highest gods. ?

Day 05: Negambo

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to the Airport to connect departure flight.
